Learn Spanish Online LessonsJiffy Spanish Lesson 11: Present Progressive TenseIf you're anything like me, reading words like "Present Progressive Tense" is one of the reasons learning a language has never been any fun. So let's put those words in a language we can all understand. It basically means that you are actually doing something. It is formed by the root of the verb, plus -ing. Do --> Doing. Walk --> Walking. Get it? Ok, let's move on. Can you remember the first lesson we had on conjugating regular verbs? We learnt about -ar verbs. That is, verbs that end in -ar, such as hablar, to speak. So, in today's lesson, we are going to learn how to take verbs like hablar (to speak) and turn them into words like "speakING". In Spanish, these verbs are formed by removing the -ar and adding -ando. For example, hablar turns into hablando. Simple isn't it? Have a look at some more sentences to really put this into your brain. Ella esta bailando con las otras chicas / She is dancing with the other girls Nosotros estamos leyendo un libro juntos / We are reading a book together That's another lesson done. I want to congratulate you for coming this far. It is a great sign of commitment. Most people have trouble with this, which is why I want to say well done. Keep up the good work, you will hear from me in another few days, with your next lesson. To really skyrocket your learning, Click Here |
